We are constantly being bombarded with emails from recruitment agencies offering business development managers with unbelievable track records in contract cleaning.
Clearly google has been a huge gamechanger, why pay inflated wages to the sales guy chasing up unqualified leads, pay for the cars/telephones/holidays etc when you can have qualified leads come to you.
The usual patter from the agencies is along the lines of so & so has achieved x amount of turnover in new sales, so & so has consistently beaten all targets, millions of pounds of new business etc etc.
Interestingly we very rarely if at all get any emails or approaches direct from these supposedly super ambitious hungary, driven individuals.
This poses 2 questions: firstly if they are so great why on earth would any company not pay and do all they can to hold onto them, secondly if these go getters are so good at pulling in new business why do we never get contacted direct by them. Surely with all their supposed attributes at sales their first ability would be that of being able to pick up the phone and sell themselves? Judging by the ever increasing number of emails we are getting, it is a tough market for sales so why are’nt they using some initiative. Sales people are not meant to be shy and retiring, hiding behind someone else – who after all is going to contact all this new business that they are meant to be able to bring in if they cant even get themselves in contact with potential employees. If you cant sell yourself how are you meant to sell something else?
Personally I would be much more impressed that someone has the wherewithal to contact us and put their case forward for what they can offer our company and why we should employ them. However why would I have time for these never ending emails from recruitment agencies promising this that and the other when those involved clearly dont have any ability to do it themselves.
